Home Ventilation


Building Science professionals have known for some time that an effective ventilation strategy is an absolute requirement for all homes. Most older homes have Air Change Per Hour rates that are well above the ASHRAE (American Society of Heating and Air-Conditioning Engineers) recommended adequate ventilation in homes. This is why we work to seal homes up without violating ASHRAE minimums. It makes dollars and sense to reduce drafts in homes. New construction techniques are achieving such low ACH levels more ventilation must be added to meet minimums.

Building Science Inc installs:

  • bathroom vents, laundry and kitchen exhausts for moisture/pollutants
  • whole house mechanical ventilation per ASHRAE

There are two main types of mechanical ventilators that Building Science Inc can offer:

  • Smart Ventilators bring in outside air under the right conditions of proper moisture and absent temperature extremes. These input air directly into your existing HVAC system for distribution throughout the home.
  • Energy Recovery Ventilators (ERVs) provide controlled ventilation that is able to filter, dehumidify, humidify, heat or cool the incoming air. Energy operating costs to achieve 0.65 ACH can be as low as $10/month.
