Guaranteed Comfort and Energy Savings for Existing Homes

WeatherWi$e Guarantee for Existing Homes

So confident and experienced is Building Science Inc in the Weatherization services we perform that we guarantee the following results from our work:

We will lower your Energy Bills: By testing an existing home’s performance, Building Science Inc will be able to determine what the effect of contracted services will be on future energy bills. Building Science Inc will compensate any excess differences versus the predicted costs that the Home Owner experiences for the two years following the completion of the contract.

We will improve Comfort: Testing will also reveal details about where energy is being leaked that could otherwise be conserved within the home, drafts and infiltration prevented by sealing for outside leaks, or other issues with the thermal envelop you call your home.

How Does It Work?

  1. By Signing our contract for the Home Energy Audit and Improvement Plan, you will receive a Consultation, written Plan Review outlining the findings, and recommendations with Quotations for going forward.
  2. Next, by contracting with Building Science Inc for the recommended work of your choosing, then Building Science, Inc will calculate the energy savings from the work and guarantee you will achieve that level of savings.
  3. Finally, after the work is completed, by submitting the appropriate energy bills for the previous year for existing residences (to establish a base line) and the next two subsequent billing years, a final settlement will be made between the Home Owner and Building Science Inc should the home not perform to the predicted cost levels

That’s really it in a nutshell!

Verification

To verify non-conformance to claims, the homeowner simply needs to submit the appropriate energy bills for the two subsequent billing years after completion of the home if costs exceed expectations. A final settlement will be made between the Home Owner and Building Science Inc. should the home not perform to the predicted cost levels.

Exceptions

Obviously, there may be some external factors that must be exempted from what is intended to be a good faith agreement between both parties, who are interested in saving energy and being satisfied with the comfort level within the home:

  1. Energy company price changes or policies.
  2. Fluctuations in the demand load caused by weather changes from the baseline year (Called Degree Heating and Cooling Days).
  3. Mechanical breakdowns of equipment and extended power supply issues
  4. No changes in Home Owner behavior such as lowering/raising thermostat settings off the baseline year, suddenly leaving the doors or windows open for extended periods of time, or altering/not maintaining the home’s systems or envelop.

Should any of these cases have occurred or will occur during the time of the baseline period through the two year guarantee period, then the effects must be discussed and a resolution calculated to adjust for the changes experienced during a billing cycle.

Building Science, Inc agrees to examine any claim for non-guarantee conformance upon submission of the appropriate billing documentation. If the claim is supported by the facts, Building Science, Inc agrees to compensate for the cost difference between the actual bills and Building Science Inc’s predicted bills, after factor adjustments.

WeatherWi$e Guarantee for New Homes

So confident and experienced is Building Science, Inc in the Weatherization services we perform that we guarantee the following results from our mutual work:

  1. Lower Energy Bills: By planning, inspecting, and finally testing a new home’s performance journey from plans through construction, Building Science, Inc will be able to determine what the effect of building’s construction details will be on future energy bills. If the home does not perform as projected, Building Science, Inc will compensate for any excess differences between the predicted costs and actual bills that the Home Owner experiences for the two years following the completion of the contract.
  2. Consistent Comfort: For any new project, Building Science, Inc will guarantee that the home comfort level will be such that there will be no temperature difference more than ± 2°F from themostat set point in any place in any room in the living (conditioned areas) of the house. Required set points are 70°F for Heat and 75°F for Cooling.

How Does It Work?

  1. If you agree to our contract with Building Science, Inc, or for Energy Star (ES), or for Earthcraft Certifications, and/or constructing the home according to their specified standards, we will agree to consult on building plans, perform Manual J HVAC loads, provide all HVAC services and products with excellent warranties (mechanical ventilation and ERVs, Water Heaters and Waste Recovery Systems, Vapor barriers, perimeter drains and sump pumps) as required at competitive prices.
  2. We will inspect for construction conformance to ES standards prior to sheetrock installation but after insulation installation. Then we will test the home performance after completion and enter the collected data for anaylsis.
  3. We will calculate the energy profile from the work and guarantee achievement to that level, typically 30-60% lower than in homes of standard construction, at normally only 3-7% more cost. With lower actual cash flow based on monthly mortagage plus utility costs vs a standard home, customers will appreciate your superior product.
